No Targi!? By far my favorite two player :)I have to go with Starla on 7 Wonders: Duel. Love the original game, but Duel is not for me.
Another great episode!! Looks like I need to seek out Lost Cities! My wife and I are pretty cut-throat when it comes to games…so it sounds like it's right up our alley.
Ah yes, some great 2p games and another great episode! My 2p favorites are Targi, Watergate (new and really good), Jaipur, Patchwork, Lost Cities, Kingdomino, Imhotep: The Duel, and Kahuna. So many of these great 2p games are available on Yucata and Board Game Arena. (You are reminding me that I need to try All Creatures Big and Small!)
My Top 5 2P games:
1) The Lord of the Rings: The Confrontation – This is a stratego-like head to head game that really feels like LOTR in 20 minutes. Cant play it just once.
2) 7 Wonders Duel – Feels like a big game in small form factor, and plays better than the original.
3) Jaipur – So simple, very tactical and matches are always close.
4) Kahuna – This game is all about card counting and reading your opponent; once the strategy kicks in is a fierce area control and probably one of my favorites of the genre.
5) Bottom of the 9 – Look no further sports fans, this is the best cardboard baseball simulator.
My wife and I have been playing more games together and Agricola ACBS is on the list. We played Agricola Family Edition a few weeks back as her first introduction to worker placement. Trying to ease her in. She loves her polyomino games though and generally kicks my butt.
“Outplay, outwit, outlast!” How’s that not on a shirt?
Some of my favorite 2 player games are:
1775: Rebellion
7 Wonders Duel
Codenames Duet
Gin Rummy
Lost Cities
Quarto
Schotten Totten
Undaunted: Normandy
and I also really like the Exit games with 2 players
Finally, Rivals for Catan gets some love. I haven’t heard a single peep about this game from any other reviewer. My wife and I adore it. She has won the last 6 games in a row, but each time I’ve been one turn away from winning. Talk about aggravating 😛
Great channel you've both put together here. One game I'd like to recommend for 2 players is Wir Sind Das Volk! The title is in german but the rulebook is both english and german. It's a great game for 2 players that's a little more crunchy but fairly easy to learn.
Thanks for focusing on 2 player games! We have kids but they are young so my husband and I are always looking for games for just the 2 of us. Starla. I LOVE patchwork too 🙂 I sew quilts so the theme drew me in immediately and my husband enjoys the puzzles aspect. Thanks for more suggestions!
Great episode. My husband is my main gaming partner and we play a lot of 2 player games. I'm really enjoying your videos.
Lost Cities, Jaipur, Piñata, kahuna, Targi
Another great episode! All of the games you mentioned are some of our favorite two player games as well.
For a long time, our gaming was just me and my partner so we bought a shedload of 2pl games at first so it's lovely to see a vid focused on 2pl games. Here's some of our favourites from over the years…
Onitama – brilliant abstract where your moves change every turn. Takes maybe 4-5mins to teach but has a lot of strategy to it.
Oniya – basically a glorified tic tac toe (that's what you over the pond folks call noughts and crosses right? apols if not) mixed with connect 4. again, very very simple but fiendishly tricky – lovely to look at too
Mr Jack – basically sherlock holmes in a box. hunt the ne'er do well and draw them into the light. can be a little biased to the perp but still a great game
Second Chance – Uwe's latest game and it's effectively all the Uwe tile laying mechanics in one purified little flip and write – genuinely excellent
2nd vote for Jaipur
Raptor is a great game – bit bitey in its theme but very clever little asymmetric game with variable end points
Long Live The Queen – which is a quirky little game a 'bit' like Love Letter but it's a face to face battle between two factions trying to seize the throne.
Check some of them out, and happy gaming!
I also like playing games with my best friend too (my wife), but we primarily play coop games because competitive games get too intense for us. 😃 Thanks for the video!
I was hoping you'd mention Lost Cities and you did. Fantastic game. Have you ever played Mandala? I think you'd like it.
I love your videos guys! Just found it from June 2020 top 10 BGG games. My favorite 2 player game with my favorite wife is Targi. We absolutely love this duel. Looking to get 7 wonders duel now thank you!
Who wins more? 🙂
"Outplay, outwit, outlast!" Bringing out tbe Survivor motto game 🤣
Pocket Hive is one of the best two player travel games
Hello! The number one dueling game in our family is Star Wars: Rebellion. This is just fantastic! It's like a real movie on your desk! So many emotions, so many things! If you have not played, be sure to do it!
All excellent games that could all go in my top 10 two player games👌👊
My wife and I have been enjoying Raptor lately – tense, asymmetric strategy. Blokus is also a popular choice in our household (though we play using the 2p method from the box as opposed to Blokus: Duo). I'm excited to check out/introduce some of your picks to our table–keep up the great work!
I really enjoy a game called Hanamikoji for a fun two player experience! I play with alot of friends that I have made, but trying to get my girlfriend to play Beyond Monopoly!
Fyi. I bought two copies of Jaipur. It scales easily and perfectly to four players. 🙂
Just found your channel, love the enthusiasm and your dynamics! greetings from portugal
I see someone already mentioned Mandala. Great choice. My girlfriend literally wouldn’t let me play anything else when I first got it. I think we played it something like 22 straight times over the first couple weeks we had it.
Nice, I was cracking up at the parallels in feelings about Agricola all creatures great small and Jaipur that is my my partner exactly.
Saw you on GMA. Love you two! Thanks for sharing. Zoomed in on this episode to get your recommendations on two player games. Looking forward to trying these out with my best friend–who, like you guys, is my wife. 🙂
I LOVE BOARDGAMES! I play with my wife when she is in the mood. I could play almost every night. So I have to play solo – I wish I could find the right game that would make my wife love boardgames too!
Mansions of Madness 2E is my wife and my favorite 2-player game. It is so much fun, and challenging, but we always feel good win or lose, and I love playing on the same team with her. The spooky adventures you play through are a blast.
The main problem is that it's expensive for the base game, and let's face it – you'll want an expansion at some point too! We would be scared to buy it without KNOWING we liked it, but we played it at our friend's place and were hooked. It also takes a while to play, a couple hours usually. But, if we have the time to watch a movie together, we can play Mansions of Madness together.
I found your channel this morning and am in the midst of binging so hello again! I just wanted to say that I loved the Survivor reference.
I love games with animeeples! Agricola, Fields of Arle, Caverna, the Keyflower Farmers expansion, Keyper, Everdell critters…so many!
I love 7 wonders duel.
I play with my wife or brother generally
Star Realms
Jaipur
Dice Masters
Lost Cities
7 Wonders Duel
Have you guys tried Agricola family edition?
5:48 Fun anger… "Sorry for getting a little fangry toward the end of the game, hun"
Two player is tough. I really like Patchwork and the single game of 7 Wonders: Duel I've played. Have you played Reiner Knizia's Battle Line? I rate this one high.
My wife and I love Targi!
2 player games in no particular order: 7 Wonders Duel, Twilight Struggle, Watergate, Carcassonne, and Dominion
I love that you each give your top 5, and the quick blurb explaining each game, while having a friendly debate about each other's choice.
We like Crimson Company and 7 Wonders Duell
Twilight Struggle is one of my all-time faves. I love 7 Wonders though; will have to give 7 Wonders Duel a look.
We (My wife and I) really love 2-player card games.
– Schotten Totten: Her favorite, she's totally addicted 🙂
– Lost Cities: Another Knizia card game in a little box for very little money.
So much game in such a tiny box!
– Claim: Another one of my wife's favorites. A 2-player trick taking cardgame.
Strategy combined with a little luck. Great theme: Goblins, Knights, Dwarfs, Undeath,..
We also love Codenames Duet.
We recently bought Century Spice Road but we haven't played it yet.
Congrats with your channel! You 2 are a really funny combination. Great energy en chemistry between the both of you. Keep it up!!
Greetings from Belgium, which is a country in Europe, Brussels is our capital city. You know, the one that Trump called 'a hellhole' 🙂
If you guys haven’t tried them yet I would suggest War Chest and Santorini. Both are very great abstract strategy games and are definitely worth a try.
I can't believe I didn't found this channel earlier . Love y'all energy and the content you provide.
Great list
